Happy Friday! We have an exciting lineup of events occurring throughout Greater Hartford this weekend! Listen to music under the stars or race a balloon-powered boat; take in a show at Artists Collective or stop by Gallery on the Green.   1. Street Culture Rapoetry, Artists Collective

Described as “a young boy’s struggle through the concrete jungle”, Street Culture Rapoetry fuses song, dance, rap, poetry and film to chronicle the journey of an abused boy. Main character, Jadis Thompson runs away, turns to drugs and finally finds redemption. The show will be performed at Artists Collective on Saturday, June 9th starting at 8PM.   1. Summer Sizzle: Love Me Tonight, Wadsworth Atheneum

Enjoy an outdoor screening of a classic 1930’s comedy or drama in the outdoor courtyard of the Wadsworth Atheneum. On Friday July 8th, ejoy the 1932 film Love Me Tonight: the story of a Parisian tailor posed as a baron who unexpectedly falls in love with a princess. Starring Maurice Chevalier and Jeanette MacDonald. Lawn chairs and coolers not provided! Learn more.

  1. Growing Up in Connecticut, Connecticut Historical Society

Each and every generation has faced a number of challenges while growing up; whether you’re a Baby Boomer or a Millennial, you’ve been shaped by your own unique events and circumstances. To highlight this, the Connecticut Historical Society pieced together an online gallery and exhibit to encourage cross-generational conversation and understanding.   1. Talcott Mountain Music Festival presents Starlets: The Women of Song

Grab your picnic basket, friends, and family and relax with some music under the stars! Starlets: The Women of Song celebrates legendary female artists over the past 50 years through top female vocalists performing fan favorites from Celine Dion, Barbara Streisand, Mariah Carey, Aretha Franklin, Whitney Huston, and Adele.  Starlets: The Women of Song is the first in the Talcott Mountain Music Festival series this summer!   1. Boats and Bridges with Captain Bob, Windsor Historical Society

On Saturday, July 9th between 10 and 11 AM, Windsor Historical Society’s meeting room and outdoor courtyard will be completely transformed with boat and ferry models. Make a sailor hat, build a bridge, and race your own balloon-powered boat outside in the courtyard! An excellent outing for the entire family!   1. 56th Anniversary Show and Celebration, Gallery on the Green

Join the Canton Artists’ Guild on Saturday, July 9th for a gala opening celebration with free refreshments and guitar music in their sculpture garden. In addition to displaying the work of over 100 members of the Canton Artists’ Guild, there will be a solo featured exhibit of photographs by Richard Allen Cohen titled, “Objects of Desire: Vignettes”!
