Kicking Off the Spring Workplace Campaign Season

Birds are singing. Flowers are starting to sprout.  Days are getting warmer.  You know what that means, right?  Well, yes, it’s spring. But it’s also United Arts Workplace Campaign season!  We’re pARTnering with our allies in the corporate world to raise integral funds for more than 150 arts, heritage, and cultural organizations in the Greater Hartford region.

We kicked off the spring workplace campaign season with Deloitte LLP and United Technologies (UTC) last week, and we’ve already raised thousands of dollars!  Though these two corporations took two very different paths to support the United Arts Campaign, they both had one goal in mind—to raise as much money as possible to support the various organizations, programs, special events, and vital unrestricted funding for the Greater Hartford arts community.

Deloitte hosted their Workplace Campaign at their City Place office in downtown Hartford the first week of April, exposing their employees to the wide variety of arts, heritage, and cultural organizations in the area through brochures and other educational resources.  Though much of the staff travels off-site throughout the day, Deloitte brought everyone together for an ice cream social one day with special guests from TheaterWorks.  Many staff members didn’t even realize that such an amazing theater was literally across the street from their offices.  So while staff enjoyed their cool treats, Freddie McInerny and Dina Silva shared the positive impact that United Arts funding has had on TheaterWorks.  United Arts Campaign funding has provided them with much-needed operating support, while also supporting their great seasons of performances. Thanks to the employees and leadership at Deloitte, the company has nearly reached their fundraising goal for this year!

Now, UTC has a completely different structure from Deloitte, and we at the Arts Council understand the different needs of different companies.  We tailor all workplace campaigns to the company’s needs and culture.  With UTC’s various business units spread across central Connecticut, the Arts Council staff is coordinating arts breaks throughout the entire month of April from East Hartford to Windsor, from Farmington to Stratford.  That’s an entire month of creativity and arts breaks with local artists and performers, from card printmaking activities to Jackson Pollock-esque paintings to musical performances!  Just last week I had the pleasure of visiting the UTC Leadership Center in Farmington with the very talented, Judy Handler.  Every employee who walked through that lobby was treated to her beautiful guitar music; they couldn’t help but smile!  Performances like this give employees a look at the direct impact of their donation—Judy is part of the Connecticut GuitarSociety, which receives funding support from the Arts Council.  They, in turn, host master classes and amazing talent at special events, bringing Connecticut residents and visitors into the area to drive economic development.  See, it comes full circle!

This is only the beginning of our workplace campaign season, which runs through the end of June.  Stay tuned for many more stories of how we’re reaching out to our neighbors through fun and creative arts breaks, all while raising awareness and funds for the arts, heritage, and cultural organizations throughout the Greater Hartford region.  Visit to learn more about our workplace campaigns and take pART in this wonderful pARTnership to benefit the arts!
